Yet, it\u2019s still something special when a woman chooses a \u201ctypically\u201d male profession.<\/p>\n<p>Just like Anna-Lena, who is in her first year as a precision mechanic apprentice at KUTEC. Her example shows how important it is to introduce children to the diversity of the professional world at an early age \u2013 without gender-specific boundaries. On International Women\u2019s Day, Anna-Lena took the time to answer our questions:<\/p>\n<p>How did you get into your profession?<br \/>\nA-L: \u201cMy father runs a metal construction company. That\u2019s how I was introduced to metalworking at an early age. However, I was never pushed in a certain direction \u2013 it just happened. My father was super proud.\u201d \u263a<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s it like to have almost all male colleagues?<br \/>\nA-L: \u201cNaturally, it takes a short adjustment period but it\u2019s not a problem. I\u2019m fully integrated and can stand my ground. I find that very important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What does a precision mechanic do?<br \/>\nA-L: \u201cAfter my apprenticeship, I can work in almost all areas at KUTEC. I\u2019m learning how to process metal, apply different welding techniques, and program machines like turning and milling centers. The profession is much more versatile than many think!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What qualities should one have?<br \/>\nA-L: \u201cSpatial thinking is very important \u2013 2D drawings need to be turned into 3D. You also need assertiveness and a healthy level of stubbornness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Do you need to be strong for the job?<br \/>\nA-L: \u201cNo! There are lifting aids like cranes and trolleys \u2013 heavy parts can be handled easily this way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anna-Lena keeps her future open.
